Frequently Asked Questions

What are the components of the LMC program?

The program begins with an Evening Reception in September and an Orientation/Retreat from 3:00 p.m. Tuesday to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday in late September.  The Orientation/ Retreat is mandatory for program participants.  The remaining eight seminars are held monthly through May of the next year, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.  The varied sessions will include panel discussions, leadership training exercises, engaging speakers, group interaction, on site visits and individual/group projects.

• What are the benefits to me as an individual and to my employer/organization as a participant?

For the individual, the program is designed to expand your leadership potential, knowledge of critical issues affecting Marshall County, management and supervisory competencies and exposure to existing leadership and civic organizations.  The employer will gain an employee with enhanced leadership skills, people skills, personal empowerment, and decision making capabilities.  The employee will be developing a willingness and confidence to assume leadership roles.  There is also potential for the employer through increased visibility and community outreach of the employee.

• Who can participate in LMC?

Individuals who have a sincere interest in community leadership, who want to increase or enhance their own level of involvement and who desire to broaden their scope of knowledge beyond a particular area of expertise are encouraged to submit an application.  It is mandatory that applicants have the support and commitment of their businesses or organization and  they must possess the personal commitment to participate in the scheduled class sessions and activities.  It is anticipated that more applications will be received than there are spaces available in the class, in which case the selection committee may be forced to eliminate excellent candidates.  Those candidates will be strongly encouraged to reapply in future years.

• What does it cost?

Tuition for the program is $300.00, which includes the overnight retreat, all seminars and course materials.  Tuition is paid by the participant or sponsor organization.  Scholarships are available.  In many instances, businesses will underwrite the expense to sponsor an employee
